Trustly has welcomed back Alexandre Gonthier as CEO of Trustly, Inc., the Americas division of Trustly AB.
In what the firm is describing as ‘a full-circle moment’, Gonthier returns to continue to fulfill his ambitions to establish Open Banking Payments as a mainstream alternative payment method; a vision which he formed back in 2000.
Gonthier has more than 25 years of experience in financial technology. As a digital payments expert and serial entrepreneur, he has helped lead several successful FinTechs, including iPIN (acquired by Intel Corp.), Paymo (now Boku, LON: Boku), TicketScript (now Eventbrite, NYSE: EB), and eWise.
He stated: “I thank John McLane for his leadership during a period of hypergrowth for the company, and look forward to his driving the development of our strategic capabilities and operations as COO moving forward.
“I’m excited to come back as CEO to further our vision of bringing a financially-responsible payment method to consumers and payment independence to merchants, with a suite of Open Banking solutions at the forefront of financial inclusion and innovation.”
The move builds on significant growth for Trustly, with the firm announcing a strengthened management in the US, Canada, and Brazil.
Johan Tjärnberg, Group CEO for Trustly AB, added: “We are thrilled and grateful that Alex has agreed to return to lead our fastest-growing division. His vast experience in the payments industry and entrepreneurial mindset make him the perfect candidate to lead our next growth chapter in the Americas.”
