Visa is looking to increase digital wallet adoption amongst Egyptian consumers with the launch of Tap to Add Card.
The launch sees Tap to Add Card available for merchants and retailers to add the offering as part of its checkout solutions. The solution also provides customers with a more secure and seamless experience by adding Visa contactless cards to a digital wallet and making payments via a single tap from their mobile device.
Backed by Apple Pay and its native Apple digital wallet, Tap to Add Card seeks to eliminate the time spent at the checkout. It aims to provide an added layer of security by creating one-time codes to validate Visa’s Chip Authenticate service, ensuring the provision and protection of sensitive card information.
Malak El Baba, Egypt’s Country Manager and Vice President at Visa, stated: “We are always keen to introduce innovative and integrated solutions that meet the evolving needs of consumers and keep pace with the rapid global transformation in digital payments.
“The ‘Tap-to-Add Card’ feature will boost customer confidence and encourage wider adoption of digital payments.”
For merchants and retailers, the introduction of Tap to Add Card is designed to make the customer checkout process faster, enabling better customer retention and ease of mind.
With Apple looking to create more adoption opportunities for digital wallet usage in Egypt, the recent move complements an ongoing trend across the rest of Africa.
Many consumers across Africa are underbanked and do not have access to traditional payment needs. Last year, the World Bank Forum found that 49% of adults in Sub-Sahara Africa own a bank account.
There has since been a surge in adoption and usage of digital mobile payments amongst Africans, due to seamless access and ability to settle payments much faster.
“The ‘Tap-to-Add Card’ feature leverages advanced technology to protect cardholder data from fraud attempts while also saving users time and effort by eliminating the need for manual card entry-delivering a faster, easier, and more secure experience,” added El Baba.
“Visa takes pride in being a key player in Egypt’s digital transformation journey and remains committed to supporting the country’s electronic payment ecosystem, reinforcing its dedication to advancing Egypt’s ambitious vision of becoming a cashless, technology-driven society.”
