PayPal elevates support for the embattled hospitality sector

PayPal has deepened its support for the hospitality sector, with the launch of iZettle Food & Drink, a simplified point of sale (POS) solution designed to enable businesses with the tools and insights needed to run and grow their business.

The new offering provides an intuitive product library, a smooth checkout process, customised layouts and fast onboarding of staff.

The solution aims to support businesses such as cafes, pubs and restaurants who are trading post-lockdown by providing them with a fast point of sale complete with new essential features.

Shaun McCarron, co-owner of The Little Chartroom restaurant in Edinburgh who tested the new product in their restaurant, stated, “iZettle Food & Drink has helped us get up and running quickly with our second site The Little Chartroom on the Prom. Contactless and remote payments are now essential for any business. iZettle Food & Drink provides us with an easy and reliable solution along with the business insights needed to navigate our new normal.”

The food and drink industry was one of the hardest hit by lockdown measures. During the pandemic’s peak restaurants in the UK’s hospitality sector saw sales decrease 87% between April – June with the equivalent of nearly £30bn in lost revenue.

Jacob de Geer, Vice President of Small Business Products and iZettle, PayPal, added: “Given today’s environment, businesses of all sizes need to be more agile to meet increasing customer and technology demands, while having the flexibility to run their business by taking sales across multiple channels, including online, in app and in-store.

“We’re proud to launch iZettle Food & Drink to support small businesses across the UK. We developed this product so merchants could better service customers, whilst ensuring they have the tools they need to grow.”
