Bitget’s Pix integration shows how crypto companies are working with Brazil’s main instant payment system.
Bitget Wallet has added support for Pix, Brazil’s instant payment system, allowing users to spend stablecoins by scanning any Pix QR code.
Delivered in partnership with licensed provider AEON, the agreement announced on September 19 enables consumers to pay with USDT or USDC across blockchains while merchants receive settlement in Brazilian reais.
“The integration of Pix marks a milestone for crypto adoption in Brazil,” said Jamie Elkaleh, CMO of Bitget Wallet.
“Our vision is to give users the freedom to pay with crypto anywhere, anytime, without barriers. By connecting to Pix, we are bridging global digital assets with Brazil’s vibrant real-time payment infrastructure, making everyday crypto use as seamless as possible.”
The launch is part of Bitget’s wider expansion which last month saw the company introduce a zero-fee crypto card which lets users spend stablecoins anywhere Mastercard is accepted,. The initiative covers more than 150 million merchants worldwide.
Bitget Wallet also already supports QR payments worldwide through Solana Pay and in Southeast Asia via national QR code systems.
Pix can’t be ignored in Brazil’s crypto journey
Pix has become the backbone of payments in Brazil since its launch by the Central Bank in 2020. More than 150 million people now use the payment network and in 2024 alone it processed 64 billion transactions worth $4.6trn.
This dominance explains why both infrastructure firms like AEON and wallets like Bitget are racing to integrate with Pix.
Earlier this month AEON rolled out a “scan to pay” feature that lets consumers settle in reais by scanning any Pix QR code with crypto wallets such as Binance and KuCoin. This Bitget announcement is taking it a step further by baking Pix payments directly into its own wallet.
It isn’t just crypto firms recognising the importance of Pix in Brazil. Stripe added Pix to its checkout options in partnership with EBANX in August, offering merchants the ability to accept Pix payments in Brazilian reais with settlement in their domestic currency.
EBANX research suggests Pix is already used by 91% of Brazilian adults and is on track to overtake credit cards as the country’s leading online payment method.
João Del Valle, CEO, Ebanx, said: “Working with Stripe to offer Pix is a no-brainer. There are 60 million people in Brazil who lack a credit card.”
