NatWest’s Mettle card users will be able to use Apple Pay to make purchases as part of a new collaboration.

It means that instead of consumers using their physical card, they can pay using the Apple devices you use every day. The card can be added to the Apple Wallet via the Mettle card app.

Underlining the security of the process, NatWest stated in its release: “Apple Pay is more secure than physical card payments. Your data privacy is protected with security features that ensure that your card transactions are not shared with the merchant or stored on your device.

“Additionally, to use Apple Pay, you’ll need to have biometric authentication (Touch ID and Face ID) or a passcode set up on your device.”

The firm added: “Now more than ever, Apple Pay is a better way to pay with your Mettle card. It’s contactless, safe and easy. And it keeps you from having to touch physical buttons or exchange cash when you’re out getting what you need. Just look for the contactless logo or Apple Pay mark.”

The expansion of the card builds on the digitalisation of payments and elevates the use of new tech in the sector with it allowing usage on the Apple Watch and embracing contactless payments.
