Why your payments page is driving players away

A poor payments experience is costing iGaming operators millions in lost revenue, a problem highlighted by the launch of a new “dynamic cashier” solution from payments provider Paysecure.

You’ve spent millions on marketing and user acquisition to get a new player to your site. They’ve successfully navigated your slick user interface, browsed the latest offerings, and are ready to make their first deposit. This is the moment a registered user becomes a paying player.

Yet, at this critical final step, countless users abandon the transaction, leaving your business with a high churn rate and a significant dent in its bottom line. This silent killer is the friction-filled payments page.

The term player in this context refers not just to anyone on your site, but specifically to a registered user who has not yet made a deposit. This is a crucial distinction. For an industry that spends hundreds of dollars to acquire a single user, improving the conversion rate at this stage is far more cost-effective than simply acquiring more traffic.

A recent study revealed that the average conversion from a sign-up to a first-time depositor is a mere 2.6%. This statistic underscores the immense value of every marginal improvement to the payments experience.

When players abandon the payments page

The high rate of player churn is a direct consequence of a payments page that fails to meet modern user expectations. These failures are often rooted in three key areas: a lack of localisation, poor technical performance, and a rigid, generic design.

Firstly, a lack of localisation is a significant turn-off for a global audience. An operator may have a worldwide user base, but if the cashier only presents a handful of payment methods in a single currency and language, many users will drop off. Players expect to see their preferred local e-wallets, bank transfers, and other alternative payment methods that they know and trust. The payments page must be a chameleon, seamlessly adapting to the user’s geographical location and personal preferences to build confidence and streamline the process.

Secondly, poor technical performance is a silent killer of conversions. A slow-loading payments page, riddled with errors or unresponsive on a mobile device, will cause players to abandon the transaction in frustration. In an age of instant gratification, a one-second delay can have a significant impact on conversion rates, particularly on mobile, which accounts for a large portion of iGaming traffic. Operators need granular data on performance metrics like load times and error types to continually optimise and deliver a frictionless experience.

Finally, a rigid, generic design undermines the operator’s brand. The payments page should feel like a natural extension of the site, not a separate, third-party interface. This visual disconnect can erode a user’s trust and confidence. The ability to fully customise the look and feel of the cashier—from logos and colors to personalised promotions—is essential for creating a consistent, branded experience that encourages a player to complete their deposit and, critically, to return to the site.

From a liability to a competitive advantage

The solution, as highlighted by Paysecure‘s new dynamic cashier product, lies in transforming the cashier into a sophisticated tool for conversion and retention. By offering dynamic, customisable, and data-driven payment pages, operators can address the root causes of payments churn.

This means providing teams with the ability to A/B test different layouts, segment user flows for specific markets, and use advanced analytics to understand player behavior in real-time.

“The cashier is where players decide whether to deposit, return and ultimately stay loyal,” said Viktoriia Degtiarova, CCO and Co-Founder at Paysecure. “With our fully customisable, dynamic cashier, operators can fully control the look and feel of their cashier to create seamless, on-brand journeys that resonate with players.”

According to Paysecure, an enhanced cashier experience is designed to improve conversion by up to 7% and increase deposit value by up to 35%. It also enables operators to extend brand experience, localise and segment user flows, and gain deeper insights into player behaviour at the cashier stage.

Through its new product, Paysecure operators will gain access to deep insights on player behaviour at the cashier, enabling them to “continually optimise the experience to boost acceptance rates and reduce friction”. Detailed cashier performance analysis on data points including cashier load times, error types and success rates – combined with advanced AI tools to monitor and flag performance improvement opportunities – will equip payments teams to scale operations and reduce barriers for players.
