Financial messaging network SWIFT is set to begin moving its operations to cloud-based platforms, including a development of its own private cloud.
SWIFT publicised its already has a proof of concept in place with Microsoft and is also looking at other large public cloud providers such as Google.
Initially the firm worked on a prototype connection on Microsoft Azure and the successful testing of payment transactions.
Craig Young, CIO, SWIFT commented: “Cloud computing is a key enabler of a faster, frictionless future and a powerful catalyst for innovative new services.
“Our community is seizing its potential, and we are committed to supporting them with a range of connectivity options reflecting their diverse approaches and breadth of needs.”
Operating under the name ‘Cloud Connect’, SWIFT is said to be developing a network architecture and automation templates for customers to “ease deployment” on public cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.
Cloud Connect is expected to provide a “resilient and secure” method when connecting to the network.
SWIFT is aiming to undergo customer trials later this year, with a community-wide service targeted for the second half of 2020.
Furthermore, the company announced a second new solution – Alliance Cloud. The solution enables institutions to host their messaging operations on SWIFT-managed infrastructure.
Designed to be “scaled quickly,” the solution integrates gpi, sanctions screening solutions and other services on a 24/7 availability. A phased roll out of Alliance Cloud will launch in the second quarter of 2020.
Young concluded: “These new developments highlight that commitment, while also underscoring our unwavering focus on security and resiliency as we continue to adapt to an evolving marketplace.”
