Financial technology platform Adyen has strengthened its partnership with payments network provider Klarna and can now better serve its global retail partners.

After offering Klarna’s suite of payment options to customers for just over 10 years now, Adyen will now transform into an acquiring bank on behalf of Klarna across Europe, North America and Asia starting from next year.

Sebastian Siemiatkowski, Co-Founder and CEO of Klarna, commented: “Adyen, a world-class financial technology platform for businesses with global ambitions, aligns seamlessly with Klarna’s role as the preferred payments network and shopping assistant for consumers and retailers worldwide.

“In our journey towards strengthening our global commerce offerings, Adyen will play an integral role as our trusted partner.”

By strengthening their partnership, both companies will further their efforts to optimise the modern customer journey by leveraging Adyen’s technology and combining it with Klarna’s global network of merchants.

Pieter van der Does, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Adyen, commented: “Klarna has, in many ways, revolutionised the digital shopping experience. I am proud to say we are now joining forces in a partnership set out to simplify payments and shopping in our respective areas of expertise.

“Adyen’s financial technology platform combined with Klarna’s various consumer offerings will raise the standard of payments and consumer experiences worldwide.”

Adyen further highlighted that global enterprises that want to stay relevant within the digital economy can now gain additional access to frictionless payments and scalability irrespective of their market or business vertical.

Tobias Lindh, Managing Director at Adyen Nordics & Baltics, added: “Adyen is fortunate to work with businesses that are reshaping commerce and Klarna is the latest testament to this.

“Klarna has changed how people shop around the world and it is incredibly exciting to take our collaboration to the next level locally and globally.”
