iPhone Tap to Pay is rapidly gaining traction in France after Wordline and Viva.com announced the delivery of the payment method in the country.

The popular payment service developed by Apple will become available to French merchants to make seamless contactless payments by connecting with Worldine and Viva.com’s platforms.

Launching independently from one another in France, Worldline will offer its mobile iOS app to merchants as a payment terminal to accept in-person contactless payments via Tap to Pay in a “easy, secure and private” process.

Being able to make Tap to Pay transactions through various Mastercard and Visa digital wallets, as well as Apple Pay, the payment method aims to drive a smooth transaction process that intends to optimise speed and convenience for merchants during peak times.

Marc-Henri Desportes, Deputy CEO of Worldline, commented: “We are very proud to have enabled Tap to Pay on iPhone for our merchants across multiple countries.

“Having launched in Australia and the Netherlands earlier this year, we are now set to open a whole new chapter in the end-user journey for our large customers in France by giving them a flexible and secure way to accept payments with nothing more than an iPhone and Worldline Tap on Mobile iOS app.”

Conversely, Viva.com is also inviting French merchants to accept Tap to Pay through its terminal iOS app, accepting all forms of contactless credit and debit cards along with a host of digital wallets.

The payment solution is compatible with Visa, Mastercard and American Express through Viva.com’s platform, as well as local French payment rails Diners, Discover and Cartes Bancaires all “coming soon”.

Samy Touboul, Head of E-Commerce & Enterprise at Viva.com France, stated: “Tap to Pay on iPhone is a game-changer that aligns perfectly with Viva.com’s innovative mindset.

“Tap to Pay on iPhone and the viva.com Terminal iOS app cover a multi-dimensional market space, offering simpler and more efficient payments that streamline business operations.

“We are certain that our French customers will embrace this novel technology, which will improve the practical issues associated with traditional payments hardware.”

France becomes the latest country where both payment services have integrated Apple’s Tap to Pay, with UK and the Netherlands merchants also having provided access to the solution via Worldline and Viva.com platforms.
