Stripe has announced two major payment partnerships that will advance its profile within the energy and tech utility sectors.

The payment systems provider is teaming up with British integrated energy company EDF, wholly owned by the French state-owned EDF, to empower residential and small business customers in the UK with more choice for transactions.

EDF will leverage the deal to offer its British clients  a variety of payment options, including card payments, that can be made either through EDF’s website or mobile app.

Mark Askew, Solutions and Automation Director at EDF, commented: “Our customers want payment flexibility. Today with Stripe we can offer card payments, and we’re now set-up to easily turn on new local payment methods whenever we need them

“We’re making it easy for them to pay in whatever way works for them – and with Stripe we’re able to make card payments incredibly easy.”

The EDF deal comes off the back of a Stripe study which found that businesses using Stripe’s checkout optimisation have seen a 10.5% increase in revenue.

Max Roberts, EMEA Revenue and Growth Lead at Stripe, added: “The energy sector in the UK has been underserved by legacy technology for too long.

“EDF is a great example of a provider modernising its payments infrastructure to serve customers better. This type of transformation has real benefits for UK businesses and consumers, and we’re delighted to play a part.”

Further developments see Stripe partner with LG Electronics to power the consumer tech giant’s new online checkout experience in Singapore.

Boasting a new customer-centric look and UX, LG’s new Singapore online store will look to tap into the country’s 60% eCommerce penetration rate by using Stripe’s international transaction infrastructure.

Gerald Chun, Managing Director of LG Electronics Singapore, commented: “LG’s new online store allows us to offer enhanced convenience and personalised shopping experiences to our valued customers.

“Our partnership with Stripe underscores our unwavering commitment to fulfilling the needs of our digitally savvy clientele. We remain steadfast in our pursuit of innovation to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction.”

By using Stripe’s offering, LG customers in Singapore are now able to make online payments using credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayNow, with LG planning to further expand the partnership into new regions.

Sarita Singh, Managing Director for Southeast Asia at Stripe, added: “A smooth online shopping experience builds trust with demanding customers, especially when buying big ticket items like home entertainment and appliances. LG is enhancing this experience so their customers can purchase with peace of mind.”
