Mastercard’s Click to Pay offering is now available to all NatWest customers in a first for the UK banking sector.

In a months-old trialling process, NatWest tested Click to Pay’s ability to save multiple cards on a mobile device so that users can shop online without the need to excessively input card details. Instead, the new function prompts shoppers to use the ‘Click to Pay’ icon so that all information provided initially is filled in automatically.

Salim Secretary, Head of Payment Schemes, Partnerships and Commercial at NatWest, commented: “We’ve made it as easy as possible for customers to start using Click to Pay – there is no sign up required and the service can be used on any site with the Click to Pay logo.”

In terms of security, Mastercard has developed the solution in a way to hide card numbers and automatically update the details in case a new card is issued, so that fraud can be brought to a minimum.

The option is currently only available for NatWest debit card holders but is soon to be rolled out for credit card users as well.

Kelly Devine, President of UK and Ireland at Mastercard, added: “Most people still use guest checkouts when they shop online, so Click to Pay saves hassle and the need to remember lots of different passwords.

“Around one in three consumer debit cards in the UK are now issued on Mastercard’s network, and we’re working with our partners, like NatWest, to make sure their customers have access to the very best payments innovation and technology.”
