Cardiff-based payment software developer MYPINPAD has teamed up with payment service provider Pomelo Pay to launch Tap to Pay, a solution designed to increase transactional flexibility for UK merchants.

Powered by MYPINPAD’s SoftPOS technology, Tap to Pay will be distributed by Pomelo Pay through its mobile app. The offering will enable businesses to accept payments via any Android NFC-enabled smartphone or tablet, negating the need for single purpose card payment terminals.

The partnership, said the pairing, will make accepting payments digitally more accessible for many merchants who may not have previously been able to afford the costs of “expensive traditional payment terminals”.

A joint statement read: “What it will also mean for Pomelo Pay’s clients is that the onboarding process will take minutes. This compares favourably with the traditional merchant onboarding process with more conventional payment service providers which can sometimes take days or even weeks to complete.”

Explaining more, Vincent Choi, CEO of Pomelo Pay, commented: “We are proud to be working with an experienced global partner to launch a PCI certified solution. We are pleased to be live first in the UK and look forward to opening several Asian markets in 2022.”

The UK will act as a launch pad for the product, with plans to further promote it in places such as Sri Lanka and the Maldives where Pomelo Pay has already established a presence. Morten Hofstad, Head of Asia Pacific at MYPINPAD, added: “This is a significant milestone in the SoftPOS journey. MYPINPAD together with Pomelo Pay have a mission to make SoftPOS solutions mainstream across the globe.”
