Visa’s reported talks to acquire Fireblocks have been denied by the digital asset company.

Fireblocks has denied reports that Visa is in late-stage talks to acquire the company for $2.5bn.

The crypto and digital asset company responded to the report from Axios, saying acquisition talks with Visa were “news to us” and not true.

A company spokesperson said: “We are aware of the rumours about a possible acquisition of Fireblocks by Visa. This is news to us, and not true at present time.”

Visa told Payment Expert “we won’t be commenting on rumours or speculation” at this time.

The $2.5bn reported figure for would represent a significant decline from the company’s most recent funding round in January 2022, where the company raised $550m against an $8bn valuation.

The most recent reported financial year from Fireblocks came in 2024, as Forbes reported the company made $124m in revenue while not posting a profit.

Previous funding rounds in 2020 ($30m) and two in 2021 ($133m and $310m) saw investment come from the likes of Paradigm, BNY Mellon, Sequoia Capital and D1 Capital Partners.

The company achieved unicorn status following the second 2021 Series D funding round, after just three years since being founded by Michael Shaulov and Pavel Berengoltz.

The company’s primary offering is integrated digital asset custody management for traditional and digital asset clients. It also operates off-exchange settlement, embedded wallet-as-a-service capabilities, and a tokenisation engine.

M&A embedded digital asset market activity

Prior to the reported Fireblocks sale links to Visa, CoinDesk reported that Coinbase was interested in acquiring Fireblocks in recent weeks, which has been denied by Coinbase.

Nevertheless, the interest in embedded digital asset companies has surged in interest this year as traditional finance firms look to integrate established infrastructure to support their digital asset strategies, as opposed to building tools in-house.

Fireblocks has been an active mergers and acquisitions (M&A) player this year also, acquiring TRES Finance for $130m in a bid to expand its decentralised finance (DeFi) accounting services.

The most significant acquisition came in March 2026, when Mastercard acquired stablecoin payment infrastructure firm BVNK for $1.8bn to double-down on the global stablecoin payment boom.

Elsewhere, S&P Global acquired asset management firm OpenZeppelin in September 2026 in a bid to expand into smart contract auditing and tokenisaiton.
