Japan international payment brand JCB has now enabled Google Pay for JCB Contactless users in Japan to be used in retail stores.

For users to install Google Pay onto their JCB Cards, the Google Wallet app will need to be downloaded first and then adding the JCB Card to the wallet.

The payment method will be initially available for Japanese Android users only with JCB also intending to support other JCB brand card issuers in the country and other markets in the future.

Google Pay is a contactless mobile payment service for Android smartphones. By adding credit card or other payment method details, users can make payments with their smartphones.

With built-in authentication, transaction encryption, and fraud protection, Google Pay seeks to keep users’ money and personal information secure.

JCB Contactless is a payment method that enables secure, simple and fast payments. Users can use the JCB contactless card or smartphone with the JCB Card being added to a mobile wallet, at various stores and for services, including Transit, by tapping it on the reader.

Outside of Japan, JCB has been embarking on implementing its payment products and solutions in a myriad of different markets. Last July, JCB partnered with French bank La Banque Postale with a focus on the facilitation of seamless payment transactions for JCB cardmembers in France, taking place in several stages.
