ClearBank has announced the appointment of Valerie Romanovskaya as UK Chief Financial Officer (CFO), subject to regulatory approval.

In this role, Romanovskaya will become a member of ClearBank UK’s Executive Team and join its UK Board of Directors. The company has stated that this position is a crucial aspect of ClearBank’s organisational changes aimed at supporting its plans for international growth.

Romanovskaya comes to ClearBank from her position as Director of Finance and Head of FP&A at HSBC Innovation Bank. She brings over twenty years of experience in finance, accounting and auditing, with a background that includes roles at HSBC, Silicon Valley Bank and UBS.

This announcement is part of a series of recent changes to ClearBank’s senior leadership team. Following Emma Hagan‘s appointment as UK CEO earlier this year – pending regulatory approval – Romanovskaya will join her in driving ClearBank’s growth ambitions in the UK. The two will work together to advance the company’s strategic objectives.

Hagan remarked: “We are excited about the wealth of knowledge that Valerie brings to ClearBank. Her strong leadership, strategic mindset, and proven track record in driving financial success make her a great fit for our organisation. I look forward to working with her closely as we target further growth in the UK.”

Additionally, Romanovskaya will collaborate closely with ClearBank’s CFO, Mark Fairless, to bolster the Group’s overall finance function. She will oversee all finance-related activities at the UK bank, which includes managing financial planning and performance, handling capital and liquidity, and ensuring compliance with financial regulatory reporting.

Commenting on her new role, Romanovskaya said: “For years, I have admired ClearBank’s technology-first banking approach and the way in which it has driven innovation in the fintech sector. I am eager to work with the team as we move ahead with the next stage of our journey, driving UK growth as the company targets international expansion.”

The company recently revealed its first year of profitability. Looking to build on this success, ClearBank announced its European expansion after securing a Credit Institution licence from the European Central Bank under the supervision of De Nederlandsche Bank
