Revolut has been granted a Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) Provider license to expand its crypto offerings across Europe.

Under its crypto subsidiary, Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited (RGDAL), the digital bank received the licence from the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) to roll out crypto services in key European markets.

The authorisation was cleared by the regulator as RGDAL demonstrated compliance with the GFSC’s regulatory framework for DLT, one of the first of its kind to be established in Europe.

Emil Urmanshin, General Manager of Crypto and New Bets, at Revolut, said: “Securing our DLT authorisation from the GFSC reflects our commitment to operating at the highest standards of regulatory compliance.

Gibraltar’s pioneering oversight in the digital asset space makes it an ideal jurisdiction to support our global operational framework as we continue building trusted and secure crypto services for our international customer base.”

Revolut’s growing European crypto business

Revolut has already secured a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license to offer regulated crypto services across the European Economic Area (EEA), with its authorisation in Cyprus enabling the company to offer services across the region due to passporting allowances.

Revolut most recently restructured its European digital assets business – Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd. – to align with MiCA regulations as they came into full effect in July 2026 by delisting non-compliant stablecoins it can offer, such as Tether’s USDT.

On stablecoins, Revolut launched its first native stablecoin, EURR, in August 2026, a 1:1 backed fiat euro asset which will be used for selected European customers for international transfers, business transactions, and settlement.

Revolut’s standalone crypto trading and services app, Revolut X, has been active since launching in May 2024 in the UK. It received a wider European push after receiving clearance to expand into 30 EEA countries.

Founded in 2015, Revolut has historically been a crypto-friendly country, having launched its first in-app crypto services for UK and European customers in late 2017.

The company’s regulatory focus on the crypto and digital asset sector also extends to the Middle East, currently awaiting full clearance for an operating licence in the United Arab Emirates after receiving an in-principle approval from the country’s regulator in July 2026.

Gibraltar’s DLT regulations explained

The GFSC amended the Financial Services Act 2019 to accommodate regulations for DLT, becoming the first jurisdiction to introduce a legal framework for DLT, blockchain and digital asset firms.

The framework oversees centralised and decentralised crypto exchanges, custodial and digital asset wallet providers, tokenisation platforms and digital asset brokerages, as well as DLT cross-border payment and settlement processors.

The GFSC built 10 core principles into the framework which firms must abide by, this being:

Honesty and Integrity, Customer Care, Adequate Resources, Effective Risk Management, Protection of Client Assets, Corporate Governance, Systems and Cybersecurity, Financial Crime Prevention, Resilience and Orderly Wind-Downs and Market Integrity.

Fabian Picardo, Chief Minister of Gibraltar, said the neobank demonstrated “high standards” in its successful bid for a DLT license.

“Gibraltar has long led the way in establishing a rigorous regulatory environment for DLT firms, rooted in high standards and robust oversight,” said Picardo.

“We are delighted to welcome global fintech Revolut, via its entity Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited, to our financial ecosystem. Its decision to launch further crypto expansion from here is a testament to the strength, reputation, and global appeal of Gibraltar as a trusted hub for digital asset innovation.”
