Catching up with Trustly’s Vasilije Lekovic ahead of the SBC Charity Boxing Championship

Fight week is well and truly underway ahead of the SBC Charity Boxing Championship, which sees the gambling and payments industry come together to trade leather and raise money for Oliver’s Wish Charity.

With the opening bell on the horizon, we caught up with Trustly’s Vasilije Lekovic, as he discussed his boxing inspirations and the importance of overcoming adversity.

Payment Expert: What has been the most challenging part of boxing training?

It was staying motivated to train regularly when the event was postponed multiple times due to COVID.

PE: Who is your favourite boxer of all-time and why?

I can’t name one, but I really like Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk and Vasiliy Lomachenko because of their boxing styles, personalities and how they managed to overcome adversity.

PE: Do you have any other sporting heroes and what led to you idolising them?

VL: Novak Djokovic would be the one. What I like about him is his mental toughness, determination, resilience and self-belief.

PE: If you get the victory on Friday the 11th November, how will you celebrate after the fight?

VL: We will definitely party until late.

PE: What will be the final song you listen to before you enter the ring, as you look to prepare your mind for battle?

VL: That would be the following one: Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl ft. Georgi Kay – In My Mind (Axwell Mix).

PE: Can you tell us the one lesson you have learned from boxing that you can take into business?

VL: In boxing, as in business, you need to be able to anticipate your opponent’s next move and make quick adjustments in order to win.

…….

The Championship was initially scheduled for April 2020 but could not take place due to the coronavirus pandemic. Two years later, SBC and Oliver’s Wish Foundation are once again inviting the industry to enjoy the white-collar boxing night and show their support for an initiative with a good cause.

This unique black tie event will be hosted by former England and British Lions rugby star and TV personality James Haskell along with Sky F1 host Natalie Pinkham and takes place on 11 November 2022 at the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton on Park Lane, London. More than 500 guests will be treated to a champagne reception and a gala dinner, but the most eagerly-anticipated attraction of the night is the action in the boxing ring.
