Mastercard has greenlit the first generation of cards with protection against both traditional and quantum computers.
The new cards will be up-to-date with the newest EMVCo contactless specifications.
Integration into current card programmes will also be supported, as warnings become ever-so-dreadful about the power quantum computing holds to bypass current security protocols and encryption.
Ajay Bhalla, President of Cyber & Intelligence at Mastercard, said: “By bringing quantum-era technology to contactless payments, we are taking steps to future-proof security and privacy protection as much as possible.
“These new cards will deliver that greater peace of mind, while also providing consumers and merchants a seamless transition from today’s contactless experience.”
