Trustly’s international reach has been further broadened by its second deal of the week, partnering with payments orchestration platform BR-DGE.

The firm’s Open Banking capabilities will be integrated into BR-DGE’s operations, as well as its other payments, finance and KYC data products. BR-DGE’s merchant partners will be able to utilise these services through the firm’s payment connectivity network.

This deal is indicative of the growing popularity of Open Banking for both consumer and merchant users. Merchants across various markets are becoming increasingly aware of the advantages Open Banking poses for quick and secure transactions. The rising popularity of Open Banking has driven successive strong performances for Trustly.

Tom Voaden, Head of Partnerships at BR-DGE, said: “We’re focused on building the technology, connections and relationships that deliver measurable value for the whole payment ecosystem.

“Our partnership with Trustly is another example of exactly this, empowering merchants and payment providers to easily leverage best-in-class solutions – in this case, open banking technology – to deliver enhanced customer experiences and drive profitability.”

Trustly will also gain from this deal by accessing BR-DGE’s global ecosystem which is connected to industries such as travel and transport, digital goods, platform businesses and retail.

Notably, one of the firm’s ‘major gaming customers’, according to the duo’s press release, will be the first to live with an integration later this year. Again, this is indicative of how Open Banking is making an impact on the betting and gaming space.

Various gaming firms have been partnering with Open Banking companies in recent years, and in countries like the UK the paytech is becoming important in a regulatory context due to the Gambling Act review White Paper. Trustly counts several clients in the gaming space, such as Coolbet and LeoVegas.

On the BR-DGE deal, Olof Wirfelt, Chief Commercial Officer at Trustly Europe, commented: “BR-DGE stands out as one of Europe’s most promising payment orchestration platforms, known for its excellent product and strong team.

“We are excited to partner with BR-DGE as one of the first open banking payment providers on their platform, confident that our superior account-to-account payments and data products will significantly benefit their customers.”
