Stripe recruits Dhivya Suryadevara as new CFO, as e-commerce acceleration looms

Stripe has confirmed the inbound appointment of Dhivya Suryadevara as its new Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO), joining the firm’s executive leadership team from General Motors (GM).

On Tuesday, Detroit news sources reported that Suryadevara had handed her notice to GM governance, ending her two-year tenure as CFO of North America’s biggest automotive group.

Suryadevara’s departure hit global business headlines, as a key recruit of GM CEO Mary Barra, whose executive team led the corporate restructuring of the US automotive multinational following year-on-year multibillion-dollar losses following a series of costly unit write-offs.

Upon news of Suryadevara’s high-profile departure, San Francisco-based Stripe issued an immediate statement confirming her appointment as new financial lead of the fast-growth payment and e-commerce platform provider.

“Dhivya experience managing high-scale, global operations and driving strategic business transformation will help accelerate Stripe’s growth and help exceed its expectations as the world economy shifts online at a faster rate,” Stripe disclosed to the media.

Founded in 2010 by Irish engineering twins John and Patrick Collison, Stripe became the fastest payment company to reach a $1 billion valuation, providing e-merchants flexible payment processing APIs to be integrated seamlessly across multiple devices, providing groundbreaking functionality for online retailers.

Today Stripe maintains a + $36 billion valuation, with its investors underlining the firm’s potential to be the next Big Tech giant.

Suryadevara joins Stripe leadership team as the company moves to aggressively expand its services and technologies, optimising further critical business functions for digital merchants and e-commerce retailers.

In its mandate, Stripe will bolster the take-up of its new ‘business operations’ suite formed by its products of ‘Radar’ for fraud & risk management, ‘Sigma’ custom business insights and ‘Atlas’ a  toolkit helping SMEs and start-ups launch their digital commercial platforms.

“Dhivya is a rare leader who has run an industry-leading leviathan but also gets excited about enabling the brand-new products and the yet-to-be invented products, too”, said John Collison, co-founder of Stripe.

“She has the expertise and the instincts to help steer Stripe through our growth in the years ahead.”
